Self-Isolation Instructions

For those with confirmed COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19 and you are awaiting your test results

  1. Stay isolated at home for at least 10 days from symptom onset.

  2. After 10 days is complete, you will need to have been without a fever in the previous 24 hours (without using Tylenol and Advil) and seen your other symptoms improve before leaving self-isolation. If you are still having fever or your symptoms have not improved, then remain isolated until you are without fever for at least 24 hours.

  3. You should try to isolate yourself from your household contacts if possible. Stay in a specific “sick room” or area and stay away from other people or animals, including pets. If possible, use a separate bathroom or clean the bathroom after each use if it is shared.

  4. You and your housemates should wear masks when in the same room with one another.

  5. Practice regular hand washing.

  6. If you have completed an isolation period of 10 days from symptom onset (or the day you tested if you never had symptoms), and you have been without a fever for 24 hours, and your other symptoms have improved, you may resume normal activities.

  7. If your coughing continues or your symptoms worsen, wear a surgical mask and contact the study team (we will be checking in with you daily). If you are in distress, call 911.

  8. All of your contacts including the people currently living with you and any intimate partners should self-quarantine at home for 14 days whether or not they have symptoms.
